IN LIEFDEVOLLE HERINNERING AAN TAHITI
20 Augustus 2021
Tahiti was nie ‘n oulike voël nie. Hy was iesegrimmig, bedonnerd en sadisties. Maar hy was cool en hy’t houding gehad. Een van sy gunsteling tydverdrywe was om die honde te roep, en wanneer die nader kom, hulle op hul neus te knyp, en dan soos ‘n maniak te lag.
Maar vir ons was hy die beste papegaai, en hy was 32 jaar deel van ons gesin se lewe. Hy was nooit ‘n liefdevolle voël nie, maar wanneer hy die dag lus was, het hy sagte sisgeluide gemaak en jou nader gepaai met ‘n ‘koppiekrap-koppiekrap’. Hierdie ‘uitnodiging’ het twee uitkomste gehad – hy het jou vinger geknyp en weer soos ‘n viswyf gelag, of hy het toegelaat dat jy sy kop vryf, saggies gekoer, en dan jou vinger gehap. Hy was mal oor dans, as jy die radio kliphard gesit het, het hy sy vlerke geklap, sy stertvere gewikkel en ‘Dans voël! Dans !’ geskrou. Sy gunsteling kos was grondboontjies en hoenderbeentjies. Ek weet hy paartie nou daar in die voël hemel, hoenderbeentjie in die boot.
Jy was die beste voël, ons Tahiti voële-kindjie.
