IN LOVING MEMORY OF “PONY” EIFFEL, THE GREAT DANE

My Baby Pooch,

I remember the day I first saw you. You were sitting on the edge of the cushion with all your other siblings, staring right at me with that little smudge on your nose. I knew then you were the one. I especially loved how the white mark on your chest formed an “L” shape and even though I called you my little loser, that “L” would always stand for love.

We cuddled every day in bed, always had matching painted toenails and my favourite part was coming home from school/work so that you could sit on my lap and we would watch TV together. Even as you got bigger, you were always my lap dog.

In the end the struggle was hard, seeing you grey around your eyes and chops made me sad, but you were so eager for your walks and car rides still. You always walked right beside me, chewing on your leash merrily as you went.

Pooch, as big as you were, you were clumsy as hell and you made me laugh stitches with your goofy zoomies or your funny sleeping positions on the couch. You always knew how to make me laugh.

When it was time to say goodbye, I did the best that I could. I rubbed your aching feet and told you one last time what a good girl you are and how much I love you and how much I am going to miss you.

As you closed your eyes and laid your head one last time. I stroked your ears and nuzzled your nose, and loved you until it was absolutely time to go.

I love you and it was hard to say goodbye to you, but it was even harder watching you get old and suffer the way that you were.

Please forgive me for now you are in a better place. Running around freely without any pain or sickness.
