Paksi. Paksi Waksi. Paksoulli.

No matter how many names we gave you, each one found its origin in the same place: love.

Our time with you was always going to be too short Paksi. So although our hearts are aching, our memories of you will have to tide us over until we meet again.

We’ll never hear a piano and not think of you singing. We’ll never see an empty plastic bottle and not want to keep it for you to play with. We’ll never not hear Dad come home and wait for you to growl in excitement when you greet him. We’ll never see Mom working at her desk without looking for you underneath. We’ll never hear thunder and not wait for your bark to follow.

We’ll miss your sploots, your expressive eyes when looking at us, your ability to tell the time when you were hungry and the way you always lay by us when we were sad or sick.

You changed our lives in the best way possible Paksi and we will always cherish every second we spent with you.

We know that now you’re enjoying being in a place with no pain, no motorbikes and no children. We know you’re enjoying loads of biltong, braai meat, carrots and especially koulouri.

We will see you again little Paksi, so prepare yourself to be showered with cuddles and kisses we’ll be storing up in preparation (even when you don’t want it).

In the meantime, you will live on in our hearts and souls.
