I gave you a home, You gave me joy.

I gave you treats, You gave me loyalty.

I gave you walks, You gave me friendship.

I gave you my heart, You gave me unconditional love.

You were so much more than a dog… You were part of our family.  You have told me a thousand times over that I am your reason for being; by the way you rested against my leg; by the way you wagged your tail at my smallest smile; by the way you showed your hurt when I left without taking you with. 

When I was wrong, you forgave easily.  When I was angry, you clowned around to make me smile.  When I was happy, your joy was unbounded.  When I was a fool, you ignored it.  When I succeeded, you bragged.  With you, I was all-powerful.  You were loyalty itself.  You taught me the meaning of devotion.  With you, I knew a secret comfort and a private peace.  You have brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. 

Your head on my knee always healed my human hurts.  Your presence by my side was protection against my fears of dark and unknown things.  You promised to wait for me… whenever… wherever – in case I needed you.  And I expect I will – as I always have.  

Rest in Peace our little bundle of joy.  We miss you “Cleo’tjies”.
